K Desktop Environment 3.5 released.

Filed under: Linux, Open Source — Hogg @ 2:46 pm

The stable version of the newest release of KDE is available. Version 3.5 includes these notable changes:

  • Konqueror is the second web browser to pass the Acid2 CSS test, ahead of Firefox and Internet Explorer
  • Konqueror can also now free web pages from adverts with its ad-block feature
  • SuperKaramba is included in KDE, providing well-integrated and easy-to-install widgets for the user’s desktop
  • Kopete has support for MSN and Yahoo! webcams
  • The edutainment module has three new applications (KGeography, Kanagram and blinKen), and has seen huge improvements in Kalzium

I started using KDE a few weeks ago just to try it out (I had previously been using GNOME on openSUSE 10.0). So far so good. I think I like it a little bit better than GNOME. It just seems to be a little bit more functional than GNOME. However, it looks more “kiddy-like.” I don’t really know what that means; GNOME looks cleaner, I guess. Clear as mud? Good.
