We made it, and Google buys part of AOL.

Filed under: Google — Hogg @ 6:29 pm

Well, I’m back home and already the first thing I did was eat some good Mexican food. (It’s just not the same in Kansas City as it is in Phoenix.) My in-laws have a wireless connection, so I’ll be able to keep up with my posts, speaking of which:

It’s already been blogged about quite a bit, but I wanted to throw in my oh-so-important opinion. So, for those of you that didn’t hear, Google forked out one billion U.S. dollars for five percent of America Online.

AOL will continue to use Google’s search and advertising technology, and take $1 billion the search giant offered to sweeten the deal, according to multiple reports yesterday.

Google and AOL intend to broaden their partnership. According to an Associated Press report based on an unnamed source familiar with TimeWarner’s position, Google will highlight AOL Web sites as sponsoredlinks, and will integrate AOL video clips into its new video searchservice.

Hopefully, this won’t mean that Google will be covered with big flashing ads promoting worthless AOL services. We shall see.
