Nobody’s buying Opera, for crying out loud.

Filed under: Browsers, Microsoft, Opera, Software — Hogg @ 5:30 pm

Google’s buying Ope . . . I mean, no they’re not. Oh wait, Microsoft bought Oper . . . whoops, just kidding. Although it would seem like a good idea for both Google and Microsoft to buy the Opera web browser, both times that rumors have surfaced about a possible buyout (first by Google, and now by Microsoft), Opera officials have promptly shut them down:

. . . it’s not true. We have not been bought, and we have not received any offers. It’s just a rumour, like the Google rumour last week.

Opera denies Microsoft takeover rumors

Here’s my thought: what if all of this is just a ploy by Opera’s marketing team to get Opera some extra publicity right before they release Opera 9 out of beta. Think about it, when was the last time there was this much commotion about Opera? Who knows, I might be right, I might be wrong.
