No Vista until 2007. Get Ubuntu in 2006.

Filed under: Linux, Microsoft, Open Source, Ubuntu, Windows — Hogg @ 9:32 pm

Since Microsoft announced that you won’t be able to get your hands on a stable version of Windows Vista until January of 2007, I have a solution for you. Ubuntu Linux.

There’s no need to wait until 2007 when you can get the newest version of Ubuntu (6.04) in June of this year.

Even better news: instead of paying $1948.31* for Vista, Ubuntu only costs nothing!

*Figure an exaggeration, hopefully.

  3. Ubuntu has to be the most user friendly Linux distro I’ve used.

  4. Actually, 2000 dollars for Vista isn’t as crazy a suggestion as you might think. Not only will you have to buy Vista, but most people will have to pay for the extra hardware (memory and fast processor) to support it. Then you’ll need to upgrade older software because it no longer works in Vista. Then you’ll need training and support because it’s so different in a few key areas. Now multiply this for an office of 100 people, and it’s an expensive upgrade.

  6. Kubuntu is good if you like KDE. I am a GNOME fan personally. But, hey, ubuntu, Kubuntu, whatever floats your boat.
