Everyone’s favorite music download site, will supposedly be shut down. TechCrunch reports that an official document posted to the Office of the United States Trade Representative web site states that an agreement between the U.S. and Russia calls for AllOfMP3 and other “illegal” music download sites to be closed.

The document specifically names as an example of the types of Web sites that they will shut down.

Russia is instructed to terminate leases for companies that facilitate online piracy, as well as inspect plants regularly, and take criminal action where there is evidence of commercial sale piracy. The government will be expected to begin complying by June 1, 2007.

Even though I haven’t been able to use AllOfMP3 for a while since it stopped taking major credit cards (or actually the credit card companies stopped taking payments to the site) I’m still fighting back the tears. I was really hoping that it would be back up and running in its former glory, but the outlook is bleak.

AllOfMP3 has issued a statement through their lawyers saying that they’re going to stay in business.

It doesn’t really matter to me if they stay in business if I can’t add any money to my account, so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

  1. Wow, that really sucks. Even tho they don’t accept credit cards anymore ,which I wasn’t aware of until now, I still use that site to check out new music. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
